On Tour – Rome Part Two

Achille Al Pantheon by Habana 120, Via dei Pastini, 00186 Roma RM, Italy

Great value, good food, friendly welcoming.

Having walked past Habana Café several times during the week on our way to, and from various sites in the city, I was keen to try out the various claims from the staff, especially considering it is located but 40 yards from the Pantheon.

Firstly the claim of ‘no service or cover charge’: FACT.

Secondly the claim of a truly ‘fixed price menu’ (turns out there are three fixed price options €10, €12 and €15): FACT.

Thirdly the claim of free champagne (prosecco) and bruschetta upon arrival: FACT; though unfortunately this didn’t arrive at our table, it did arrive at most other’s so that was a thing to easily gloss over.

My wife ordered from the €10 fixed price menu and chose various cured meats and grilled vegetables as a first course followed by tortellini with prosciutto and a small beer.

I chose to order from the main menu as did my 9 year old and we both had pizza (incredible base with a wonderfully flavoured tomato sauce) and a drink, large beer for me and a Fanta for my daughter.

My 7 year old ordered from the €12 fixed menu and chose spaghetti carbonara followed by a pork escalope with a mixed salad and a Fanta.

During the meal (lunch), I ordered a 1 litre bottle of mineral water, sparkling, and another large beer.

At all times the atmosphere, the service and the experience was excellent, especially considering the footfall that the café gets; I cannot rate this any higher, wonderful and a place not to miss among the very many mediocre establishments on offer.

Total price was €48.90 and that, in most places, let alone the very centre of Rome is an absolute bargain.
